Sugarlands Visitor Center Christmas Festival

On December 8th of 2012 the Sugarlands Visitor Center will be hold its 37th annual Christmas Festival. As always, this festival will have a full schedule of events for the entire family, young and old. This festival has always been a great way to kick of the Christmas season in the Smoky Mountains. Further down the page is a list of the scheduled events

Where’s the Sugarlands Visitor Center is located? The center is located on Tennessee side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Full of animal and plant diversity and the beauty of the mountains.This has to be one of the best National Parks in the world to visit and visiting during the Christmas season makes it all more memorable.Sugarlands Visitor Center

This center is also the place you want to visit before heading into the park. This is the place for park maps and to get water and souvenirs. You will also find park ranges in the center that can provide you with all sort of information like the best trails to hike.

This Smoky Mountain Christmas festival begins at 9:30 am and lasts till 4:30 pm.

The festival will include many crafts that have their origins in the Smoky Mountains such as: making of rag rugs, apple-head dolls, quilts, and apple butter. You can watch but if you like, there’s also the opportunity to participate hands-on in these crafts.

The schedule of activities at the Sugarland Visitor center Christmas Event on December 8th, 2012.

9:30 am – Kick off the festival with the harp singing of Bruce Wheeler, Paulo Clabo and Martha Graham. All celebrated harpists.

11:00 am– Enjoy the traditional mountain music of the “Lost Mill String Band”

12:00 pm- The Smoky Mountain Historical Society will tell stories and the histry of this great area and will entertain your questions.
1:00 pm – The great music of the “South of the River Boys”
2:00 pm – The Boogertown Gap Band
3:00 pm – Celebrate Old Time Christmas with Tony Thomas and Judy Carson

11:00 am -12:30 pm and 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm – “Christmas Memories Walk” – Learn of early life in the moutains in the years 1880 – 1930s. This is really fascinating history much which can’t be learned my other places. Not even school. The kids should love this :-D.
