The Tavern in Old Salem

If you have been thinking of taking the family to dine in a historical setting then you need to consider The Tavern in Old Salem. The kids will probably beg not to go since it appears sort of boring when looking from the outside. The atmosphere is quite different from any other restaurant in the Winston -Salem area. It’s historical but far from boring.

Address: 736 S Main St  Winston-Salem, NC 27101 Phone: (336) 722-1227. See the map below for directions from your current location.

From the outside it does appear to be a great place to get a baked skinless chicken breast and a glass of water.

But on the inside you will find a surprisingly comfortable setting, a diverse menu, a great wine list and a full bar with just about every drink under the sun.  See out map below if you need directions

What do they say about Downtown Thai Restaurant

  • In recent years there has been a number of new Thai restaurants in the WInston-Salem area. This is definitely one of the best. This is not the cheapest restaurant but the service and food are always great. Many great choices on their menu but my favorite by far is the soft shelled crab. The steamed vegetables and rice and I forget the name of the sauce but it all goes perfect together. I could eat this everyday.
  • The food isn’t bad but a little overpriced in my opinion.
  • The Downtown Thai restaurant has great food but I think there are other Thai places that are just as good but less expensive. But its worth trying out and putting into your mix of restaurants. If you do happened to like really spicy food this is a great place for that. Make sure you ask your servers to make the food extra spicy.

Interested in other restaurant in this city?

  • I work in the downtown area and patron many of the different restaurants. The service and food at this restaurant is good but I probably will not be going back. I have been here more than once, I really like sushi and found theirs to be only average compared to other restaurant options in the downtown area. But there were a couple other dishes I liked here. I do believe they are over-priced, I think I can get just as high quality at other restaurants and less expensive prices.
  • This is my absolute favorite restaurant in the downtown area. It is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. The food is excellent, I love their shrimp dishes and they present their food beautifully. I love the atmosphere and the food. The place is very clean and always provides great service.
