Country Boy Blush – This is the best Muscadine wine in the area. Goes great with traditional southern meals.

North Carolina Chardonnay – This excellent white wine has a tropical flavor and goes great with chicken dishes.

Calaboose Cellars

Calaboose Cellars a charming winery located in Andrews, North Carolina. This winery sits in a little valley that’s surrounded by the herculean Smoky Mountains. Visiting here and taking in the rough but picturesque terrain you should quickly understand why this setting is the perfect place to have a county jail.

Did I forget to mention that a hundred or more years ago the building Calaboose Cellars resides in was once a county jail? There’s still bars on the windows but the inside is perfectly decorated for a mountain winery.

The Drive is Beautiful and well worth the trip!!!

Wine

What about the Wines found at these Smoky Mountain Cellars?

The winery has an impressive selection of wines. They categorize their wines: Dry, Sweeter, Country and Dessert.

What’s the prices like? Per bottle varies from $15 -18. They have a very nice little tasting room here I’m not up-to-date on the price of wine tasting here, if I had to guess probably $5-6 bucks to sample each of their 8 wines.

My first experience here was attending a live music event, I didn’t even come for the wine. But after talking to the many people that night and sampling the wines I found many high quality wines. And also found learn many people come from long distances just to get these wines.

Especially the one named Revinoors’ Red, which has been awarded many gold medals!

Revinoor’s Red – This is a extremely nice red wine that goes great with both chocolates and cheeses.

Events

Calaboose Cellars is one of the prime place for winery events in the state of North Carolina. If interested in learning more about the monthly events the best place to go is their websites events page.

There’s also a newsletter you can sign up for which will keep you informed on all the events planned at the winery.

Atmosphere

I’ve been looking for a nice video to put up to show the place off but have failed to find one that can match the video on their own website. This place is absolutely charming, take a look!!

The South Creek Vineyards Experience

South Creek VineyardsIn the boxes below you can read through how we rate different aspects of this North Carolina winery. Also towards the bottom of the page find a map for directions to South Creek Vineyards.

My very first visit to South Creek Vineyards left me truly impressed by the beauty of their vineyardswalking in the tasting room being greeted by more than one friendly face was also a plus. I also can’t forget the little dog who was the first to greet me wagging its tail.

But one thing about South Creek Vineyard you need to know

Just as I sat down and just as began sampling my first wine, a funny looking man in an orange hate presented himself to me.

He asked, ”Do you know what the grape, said to the wine?”. Of course I had no idea?

The man said, ”Pleasure to make you”!!! HAHA. Yeah I didn’t laugh either. The moral of this story, if you’re looking for a comedy club, don’t visit South Creek Vineyards.

South Creek Vineyards review

South Creek Vineyards and Winery

Wines at South Creek Vineyards

South Creek Vineyards has at least six very good red wines to sample. And if you’re a white wine drinker, you will also be able to find both a Chardonnay and a Chardonnay reserve at South Creek. Both of these white wines are clean and crisp and go prefect with seafood.

I have a couple favorite wines at these NC vineyards and both of these are the red wine variety:

2009 Maestro – This is a blended red wine that goes great with beef. The fruit, dark cherries is forward and the finish lingers nicely. A very nice level of tannins in this wine.

2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve – A very rich full bodied red wine. This Cabernet will fill your nose with the smell of deep dark rip fruit. And your palate will be tickled with hints of pears and green apples.
