Haier 12 bottle Wine Cooler Dual Zone

Suspicion about Wine Coolers Confirmed

Haier 12 Bottle wine cooler reviewQuestion: Before becoming interested in buying a wine cooler for your home or business could you name a single brand or manufacturer?

The great majority of people would answer NO to this question.

Before writing this review on the Haier 12 bottle dual zone wine cooler we interested in hearing more opinions other than ours on what exactly makes a great cooler. And we came upon the perfect opportunity:

We were at an expensive Italian restaurant sitting at a long table full of many people from different backgrounds. I will not speak about the exact occasion but what I will say is a  few of these people sitting at the table were filthy rich, they also loved a good bottle of wine and were also very knowledgeable about wine. At least three different occasions they pointed out mistakes to the server on the restaurants wine list.

I thought great, these people are both rich and love wine and probably could tell me some great information on coolers. I asked if they owned a wine cooler. The  answer was “YES” from three different individuals. Then I asked what brand they owned and also what’s the best brand. Not one could tell me the brand of wine cooler they owned.

The company Haier is one of the world’s leading producers of quality wine coolers. The video below provides a very informative review on this 12-bottle model.

If you watched the video review of the of the Haier 12 bottle dual zone wine cooler there were not many major negatives mentioned.

It’s a sharp looking black unit which can be stored on a counter top or tucked out of the on the floor. It’s offers dual zone temperature control allowing you to store both red and whites wines at separate perfect temperatures for each. This duel zone feature is usually only reserved for large coolers, you will not find many 12-bottle units with this great feature.

The temperature controls are also very consistent. Its not going to freezer your wine or shut off when your out of town for a few days.

There was mention of the fans and the noise they produce.

This unit also has received many 5-star and 4-star ratings from Amazon customers.

Wine Cooler Brands – Best to Buy

Even the majority of avid wine drinkers have never had an in depth discussion about the which are the best brands of wine coolers or refrigerators to buy and which ones do you want to stay away from. There’s is absolutely no doubt, when the thought of buying a wine cooler first enters a person’s mind, the majority of people couldn’t name you a single brand or company that manufactures these items.

Wait I take that back… I decided to ask my sister and her friend who both drink and talk about different wines very frequently.

So as they were sitting in the living room gossiping over a glass of wine, I asked, “Do either of you know any wine cooler brands?”, my sister says, “Seagrams, I love the Tahiti Sunset, YUM!!!” and her friend pipes in with, “Jack Daniels and Bacardi are good too”.

Good Grief, never mind!!!

I guess that was sort of an unfair question, I could have asked about wine refrigerator brands to make it more fair. But I’m still very confident I wouldn’t have got an answer. And its not a woman thing because when I looked over at my brother-in-law who also loves drinking and buying wine he had a look of confusion on his face.

Oster Electric Wine Bottle Opener

Oster Electric Bottle Opener Silver

How do you open your bottle of wine? Ever seen a person struggling but still determined to get that cork out? The human mind can come open with very unique ways of opening a bottle of wine when there is no traditional wine opener available. Some good, some not so good and some border on horrific.

There was one lady who became so frustrated after her basic corkscrew opener broke that she took off one of her high heels and proceeded to use the stalk on the heel to push the cork though the bottle. It actually worked but all I could think about was the smell of feet every time I took a sip of wine. I’ve seen people using their teeth. I’ve seen a bike pump used.

One of the most unique ways I saw was done with a shoelace. A guy first used a knife to carve a hole down the center of the cork. Then tied a big knot in the lace and forced it down into the hole and yanked the cork out. The wine sort spilled a bit but it worked.

Have you ever bought anything from Amazon? How do you go about judging whether or not the product is good or bad. I believe the best way to do this is to look at the number of reviews left and also the number of 5 and 4-star ratings given to the product. Below is what I found when I came across the Oster Electric Wine Bottle Opener.

Best Electric Wine Bottle Opener

There is no other model that can compare to the number of reviews and the number of 5 and 4-stars given.

If you are concerned about the number of 1-star ratings then I would suggest you read what these people have to say. Read and compare these reviews to the 5-star reviews and decide for yourself if these complaints are warranted.

If you frequently or even occasionally need to open a bottle a wine I wouldn’t suggest you resort to any of the methods above.  What you need is a real wine opener and there are many different types to choose from: The basic cork screw, lever and prong styles and many other hand held openers that depend on the torque you create with your hand.

Haier 8-Bottle Wine Cellar

Who should buy the Haier 8-bottle Wine Cellar

Haier 8 Bottle Wine Cellar Review

The first time we encountered this counter top wine cooler model was in one of the wineries we frequent near the city of Charlotte, NC.  It was always used to store the daily specials at this winery. It sat on top of the wine bar looked sleek and compact.  We never had much of a reason to inquire about it until a good friend of mine started having difficulties at home.

Without going into great detail about my friends personal problems.  We will just say they were downsizing, moving from a nice home to renting a place to live.

My friend was a huge lover of wine. In their home was a huge dual zone wine cooler built right into their kitchen cabinets. It did go great with their kitchen decor and they absolutely loved it. Loved it so much that they would talk about it like it was their baby.

But when they were forced to move out of their home and become renters this huge wine refrigerator was something they definitely wouldn’t be bringing along.

I told my friend about smaller wine cooler models I had seen but they didn’t seem the least bit interested.

Haier 8-bottle Wine Cellar catches my friend’s eye

Haier 8 Bottle Wine Cooler review

A while after my friend became situated in their new life we visited a that winery in Charlotte where I had seen that smaller wine cooler on the wine bar. Up until this point my friend was consistently complaining about having to store their favorites wine in a normal refrigerator and how the taste just wasn’t the same.

Then about a month after we had visited this winery I stopped over to visit my friend in their new place. My friend wasn’t home but their son let me in and we talked for a bit. I walked into the kitchen and there it was the same model that was at the winery. The Haier 8-bottle Wine Cellar the glass windows were a little frosty so I couldn’t see inside but I pushed the “light” button and then could see perfectly inside at the wine bottles she had cooling.

It looked really great on the counter, very compact and went great with the decor of the room. When I spoke to my friend about this new wine cooler I could tell they were still miffed about losing that built-in unit at their home but seemed really pleased with the smaller Haier model that fit on their kitchen counter top.

Really the only compliant they had was it took a while for the machine to reach the exact cooling temperature when they first turned it on but said it stays at the set temperature consistently.

They even said they were very surprised when they returned from vacation that the wine in the cooler was perfectly chilled after two weeks of being gone.

It seems as though their larger built in cooler had once shut off off when they were gone on vacation.

Best Wine Cooler Review Guide

For nearly two decades we have spent an enormous amount of time inside wineries, talking with the owners, bartenders and wine lovers. We have also attended 100′s of different wine competitions, events and product shows.

Its amazing how much we have learned from the people we have met and spoke with over the years. We decided to share some of  what we have learned over the years by putting together a wine cooler review guide to help consumers make more informative decisions. We will address many of the most common questions about the different brands, types and the different features included with the top coolers and wine refrigerators.

How to Pick the Best Cooler for You

#1 The first thing you need to decide is what type of cooler best fits you. Many different types exist. Below is a list and description of the most common types:

Single Zone Cooling - These are fairly simple and very similar to a kitchen refrigerator built specifically built for storing wine. Single zone coolers offer only one temperature setting and are usually the less expensive option. It’s true, different reds and whites are best served at specific temperatures but if you only have a small collection of wines the single zone is probably the best choice.

Dual Zone Cooling - These have two separate storage compartments and each can be set to a different temperatures. If you have an extensive collection of wines which need to be stored at different temperatures then you should consider a dual zone.

Built-In Wine Coolers – These are built to fit seamlessly into spaces like cabinets and dishwashers fit in your kitchen. This type comes in both the single zone and dual zone and are usually the most expensive option.

Portable and Handheld Chiller – These could be anything from a simple ice bag to carry your wine to something much more high tech that chills your wine instantly. From the most part these are devices you can carry and are good for chilling one or two bottles of wines. These are usually the least expensive type of cooler but offer high convenience.

#2 Price: After deciding on the type of wine cooler that best fits your needs you need to decide how much money you are willingly to spend. You can then browser the different options to find one that meets your requirements in type and price.

#3 Brand and features: This is your final decision. After you have narrowed your choices down to a few, according to the type and price, then you should start looking at the different features. And always before you should at least read a few customer reviews on the company that makes the product. Amazon is a great place to read product reviews.
