This Yadkin Valley Winery comes not only highly recommend from me but also many past visitors who have left their online reviews. Just Google this winery and read all the praise given on other sites.
About thirteen different wines are produced and aged here, all wines are made from grapes grown in their vineyards. Sanders Ridge Winery is known for producing very high quality Carlos Muscadine and Cabernet Franc.

If I could recommend one to try during the wine tasting, try 2009 Merlot Barrel Select. In my opinion, the raspberry flavor and spiciness are absolutely wonderful.

In total there’s probably a selection of over 50 different wines. Dry Reds and Whites, Blushes and Sweet wines.
Price: $12-15 on average but expect to pay more for some of the finer wines.
A few of the best wines to taste
Bergamais – A gold medal winning red wine made from the Gamay grape.
Feather Bed White – This is by far the most popular wine here. It’s a medium bodied fruity Pinot Grigio.
The owners and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about their wines so the key is to ask questions and describe to them what you would like in a wine so they can point you in the right direction.

The art gallery at Cherokee Cellars includes: Contemporary, Still Life, Impressionism, Figurative, Realism, Landscapes.
Cherokee Cellars Winery is a little gem of a winery. If it wasn’t so remotely located in the mountains, there’s absolutely no doubt this would be a must visit for wine lovers in the state.
The mountains surroundings, your actually surround by mountains, not only in the foothills, completely surrounded!!! Simply beautiful!!! It’s amazing that such a great place goes virtually unnoticed but that could be the price paid for being located in the deep mountains.

The specialty here is both dry Red and Whites wines, although they do produce a variety of different sweet and blush wines.
What will you pay for a bottle of wine here? Many of their wines cost under $15 a bottle. The overall price range would be $11 – 19.
Gold medal winning red wines
If you are a red wine lover then you might be interested in knowing Cherokee Cellars Winery produces two very well received red wines. In fact both of these are gold medal winners.
Sangiovese – a fruity red wine. Starts out tasting like cherries and then finishes smoky. Great with pasta. A bottle of this wine runs around $16.
Trio – A blended red wine. The blend includes Cabernet Franc, Norton, and the wine mentioned above Sangiovese. This wine goes great with beef. A bottle of Trio will cost around $19.
Hidden, private and charming are a few words that come to mind when trying to describe this winery. When visiting you will see an old barn on the premises, the tasting room is located inside. The atmosphere inside is best described as museum like or historic.
Once your inside enjoying the wine tasting, chances are you will be given a history lesson about the land and also this area of North Carolina. Many guest really do appreciate this historic aspect of the winery.
And if you are wondering about their wines, many past visitors rave about both the reds and whites. Don’t take my word for it, Google, Grassy Creek Vineyard and read all the positive reviews about their wines.
The grapes used in producing the wines you will find here are harvested from their on site vineyard and also a vineyard located nearby named, Holloway Vineyard in Troutman, North Carolina. I believe the owners of this winery own both of these sites.

If you’re near Hendersonville, North Carolina then the perfect opportunity exists for you to learn wine making from the professionals at Falderal Winery. If you are unfamiliar with the city of Hendersonville, it’s just south of Asheville.
Falderal holds wine classes two days a month.
The first class is usually on the 2nd Saturday of the month.
The second class usually falls on the last Thursday of the month.
On these days the classes begin at 5 PM and last until 8 PM.

The classes offered
Wine making 101 – Covers the basics from fermentation to bottling. The class involves learning to make wine by using wine a wine making kit. Great for beginners or even those with experience that need to brush up on their skills.
Wine making 102 – A more intense class which involves learning to produce wine from fresh fruit rather than a kit. This class is taught during the harvest months, August – October. This is a great class for people who grow their own fruit and want to learn how to turn it into wine!!!
One of the newer wineries in the Yadkin Valley and has been growing in popularity since its conception in 2007. Brandon Hills Vineyard is family owned, their approach to making wine here is quality over quantity. There’s a map below for directions in case you want to visit.
The wines alone make a trip to this winery worthwhile. On top of the quality wines, the regular live music and other events and also the good food have also helped Brandon Hills grow in popularity. And like all the wineries in the Yadkin Valley the drive to visit is quite beautiful.
Presently there are nine different wines offered here. These include: Single vinifera, blends and non grape wines.
By the bottle the prices are reasonable, between $15-19. There is also the option to order online just in case one of their wines becomes your favorite and you live too far to visit on a regular basis.
Popular wines at Brandon Hills Vineyards
Pinot Gris – Both 2008 and 2009. In my opinion the 2009 is superior.
Barbara – Very unique to find this wine variety in the Yadkin Valley, they do a good job with it as well.
The winery usually has atleast one or two events planned per month. Could be anything from live music to a picnic. Visit their website to learn more about the events planned.
